Understanding Kosher Cell Plans and Numbers in Israel

In Israel, kosher cell plans have their own prefix.
A kosher cell plan consists of a phone and SIM card designed for voice calls only. The phone must display a "Meushar" symbol, and the kosher SIM card will have a kosher number and will only work in a Kosher phone.

Kosher Phones

  • Kosher phones are designated for "talk only" with no SMS or internet capabilities.
  • They do not include games or cameras.
  • If a kosher SIM card is placed in a non-kosher phone, it will lock, and you'll need a new SIM card.

Calling Restrictions

  • Certain destinations, deemed inappropriate for the community, are restricted.

 Transfer of Kosher Numbers

You can transfer a phone number from one kosher carrier on the list to another. For example, a number like 050-41... can be transferred to service from Cellcom or a kosher plan from Cellular Israel.

Kosher Plan vs. Kosher Number

If you have a plan with calling only (no texting or data), it may be referred to as a Kosher plan. However, it's essential to distinguish between the plan type and whether the phone number itself is considered a kosher phone number.
